ORLANDO, Florida (Dec. 11, 2013) – Pop Warner announced this week that Purdue University wide receiver Gary Bush will receive the fourth annual Pop Warner National College Football Award.

The award, established in 2010, recognizes a Pop Warner alumnus who has made a difference on the field, in the classroom and in his community. It is presented to a student-athlete who has taken the ideals of Pop Warner to the next level and serves as a role model to Pop Warner's young scholar athletes.

Pop Warner presented the award to Bush on Wednesday, December 11 during the 57th annual Pop Warner Super Bowl at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL.

Bush competed in the 2002 Pop Warner Super Bowl with the Palmetto Raiders of Miami and took home the Division 1 Jr. Pee Wee national championship title.

"We created the Pop Warner National College Football Award to honor a student-athlete who serves as a positive role model for our young athletes, on the field, in the classroom and in his community," said Jon Butler, executive director of Pop Warner Little Scholars.

"We considered many tremendous athletes this year and have found a worthy recipient in Gary Bush. He is an accomplished athlete and student and we were particularly impressed with his dedication to raising awareness for his father's illness along with his brother, Miami University safety Deon Bush."

Gary started all 13 games in 2012 and finished the season with 41 receptions for 365 yards and career-high seven touchdowns. Gary is currently pursuing an organizational leadership and supervision major at Purdue University. His father, Gary Sr. played football at Mississippi Valley State and his mother, Michele played college basketball at Miami and North Carolina Central.

Nominations for the Pop Warner National College Football Award are accepted from SIDs across the country in the fall, and hundreds of college players are considered. The inaugural award was presented to former University of Nebraska and current New York Giants' defensive back Prince Amukamara; the 2011 award was presented to University of Virginia and current Washington Redskins' cornerback Chase Minnifield; the 2012 award was presented to former Duke University quarterback and current Atlanta Falcons' quarterback, Sean Renfree.
