The Norfolk Saints out of Virginia won the 57th Annual Pop Warner Super Bowl for the Division 2 Junior Pee Wees, defeating a tough team from Bedford Heights, Ohio by a score of 18-0.
Led by tailback Brian Pope, Norfolk proved to be a powerhouse in the run game, Pope scored on a pass in the second quarter that went 44 yards to take a 6-0 lead. He would later score on a 4 yard run up the middle to give Norfolk a 12-0 lead. Norfolk would then recover the ensuing kickoff, which led to a touchdown by Jeffery Foster to increase the lead to 18-0. This proved to be enough to give the Norfolk Saints the championship trophy!
Norfolk's defense was also major key to their win. They kept Bedford Heights from getting to the edge and showing off their speed. They also came up big on a couple fourth downs that gave Norfolk good field position and also kept Bedford Height's offense out of the game. Brian Pope from Norfolk recovered a key fumble to stop Bedford in the second quarter that led to Norfolk's first of three touchdowns.
The Bedford Heights Saints have nothing to hang their heads about. They made it to the Super Bowl game, falling just short of their ultimate goal. They have a couple of kids who made a name for themselves during the championship game. Logan Nash and Lawson Nash had great games and showed that they have a bright future ahead of them. They were in on every tackle on defense and were tough on the offensive side as well.
Throughout their run to the championship, Norfolk dominated on both sides of the ball giving up only 6 points and scoring 76 on the offensive side here at the ESPN Wide World of Sports. This is their second Pop Warner National Championship, the previous title coming in 2004.
The Norfolk Saints can now enjoy their trip down here in Disney after finishing business and winning the 2013 Pop Warner Super Bowl!
