Gwen Cherry Bulls cruise to win the Pop Warner Division 1 Junior Pee Wee National Championship here at ESPN's Wide World of Sports Complex. They defeated the Virginia Beach Mustangs 26-0. The Mustangs played a great game but they just ended up a little short of winning the Championship.

The first quarter was a defensive showdown. Both teams stopped each other for the first quarter with the score being tied at 0. The nerves were definitely a big factor early in the game!

Gwen Cherry got a huge run from Jaylin Bain, who used his speed to get to the outside and it was off to the races after that running past the Mustangs defensive backs. Gwen Cherry also made a couple big passes, both leading up to a touchdown. Javon Ferguson threw a dart to Jacorey Brooks who took the ball to the 5 yard line. Virginia Beach held strong however forcing a 4th down from the 1 yard line. Javon Ferguson ran a quarterback sneak up the middle to make the score 12-0.

Gwen Cherry's defensive line came up big when it mattered. They held the Mustangs, who scored 68 points in the first 2 games, scoreless. They proved to be bigger and were able to keep Virginia Beach from getting there speed backs to the edge. Virginia Beach was just unable to move the ball down the field throughout the game.

Paul Hutson III got a key interception for the Mustangs when the pass intended for Jacorey Brooks went through his hands and popped up after hitting him in the face mask. Gwen Cherry was able to keep Virginia Beach from scoring and went into halftime leading 12-0.

Virginia Beach came out strong after halftime, forcing a Bulls punt. Gwen Cherry would score with 1:20 left in the third quarter by a touchdown run from Shemar Paul. The final score came on another key throw and catch from Ferguson and Brooks to set up a 1st down from the 8 yard line.

Larrion Moss would do the rest and run for a 6 yard touchdown to take a 24-0 lead. Gwen Cherry decided to go for the kick, which is worth 2 points in Pop Warner, and made it to up the score to 26-0.

That proved to be enough as the Gwen Cherry Bulls become the National Champions beating the Virginia Beach Mustangs 26-0. Hats go off to the Virginia Beach Mustangs for going to the National Championship game, they had a fantastic season. Look forward to seeing both teams play here next year!
