What it Means: The Redhawks, from the Chicagoland Pop Warner, claimed the first national championship trophy in the program's history. 2013 was the first time the Redhawks have competed in the Pop Warner Super Bowl.
The Last Time: The last time a Pop Warner national champion came from the Chicago-area was in 2002 when the Harvey Colts Division II Jr. Midget team won it all.
How they Won: The Redhawks rode a stout defense to a 16-0 shutout victory in the National Championship game. A touchdown run put the Redhawks up early in the second quarter 8-0, and a late fumble recovery for a touchdown in the 4th quarter put the game away.
How they Got Here: Hoffman Estates won a close battle in the opening round against the Stanley Blue Devils (NC) 18-12, followed by a 35-12 victory in the semifinals against the Watchung Hills Wolverines (NJ). In the regular season, they went a perfect 13-0 en route to the Pop Warner Super Bowl.
Fun Fact: Every Hoffman Estates coach played Pop Warner football as a youngster, including three (two of them, brothers) on the same team.
