It was an evenly matched contest in this afternoon’s Junior Midget semifinals and the Loveland Titans came out on top of the Secret Society Panthers, 38-33. With over four lead changes throughout the game, the Titans and Panthers fought down to the wire for a spot in the championship game this Friday.
Both teams had strong running games but it was passing that brought the Titans out on top. Quarterback #12 Michael Kinney connected with various receivers, including two touchdown passes to receiver #10 Caleb Smith. He connected with #15 Trent Beall for a 12 yd. pass to seal the Titan victory.
Running back #35 Nicholas Wall stole the show, powering through Panther defenders for majority of Loveland’s run game. Wall had several lengthy drives, including a 30 yd. touchdown run at the end of the third quarter to put the Titans back on top.
#3 Cody Rakowsky deserves mention as the Titans’ left-footed kicker and as an plus to both the offense and defense. With only one blocked extra point, Rakowsky’s kicking talents proved to be a huge asset to Loveland’s victory.
The Titan defense held strong throughout the second half, holding Secret Society to 13 points. Isaac King, Derek West and Devon Boling led the defense, all coming up with big tackles.
For the Panthers, #2 Desmond Shell was a standout all-star. Shell had three rushing touchdowns, including a run back kick-off. He also proved to be a defensive strength and served as the team’s kicker. #9 Davon Colbert was a strong running back for Secret Society with a 40 yd. touchdown run. The Panthers ran into penalty issues that cost them some valuable yards. Their defense was worn down by the diversity of the Titans’ offense.
Overall, it was a well-played game between both the teams. The Titans will play the Port St. Lucie Pirates in the Junior Midget Division Championship this Friday at 1:15 p.m. The game will be available for live streaming on ESPN3.
